Medication

We are not doctors and cannot give medical advice but we can assist in reminding clients to take their medication and work with other healthcare professionals when needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my carer administer my medication for me?

Our carers will only administer medication when it has been agreed and written in your Care Plan. Both prescription and ‘over the counter’ remedies must be agreed beforehand so that it can be checked as to whether the medicines will have no ‘side effects’ if taken at the same time. Some health-related activities when agreed, need to be carried out under the supervision of a healthcare professional and staff will be only able to perform them when they have the correct training, are fully supervised and assessed as being competent to meet your health-related needs safely. Care practitioners are not allowed to administer medication from family-filled medication dispensers and no assistance can be provided that has not been formally agreed with the Care Manager and detailed in your Care Plan.

Can my carer pick up prescriptions for me?

Our carers can assist you with collecting your prescriptions or collect your prescriptions for you. Our carers can also advise you on services available for delivery and repeat prescriptions.

Do I have to inform Didcot Home Care of any medications I am taking?

Yes. All prescribed medications or ‘over the counter’ remedies that you take must be recorded in your Care Plan. This is to ensure our carers understand how to best care for you and reduce any risks with medications.

Yes. As part of our considered care planning process, we ensure to match a member of our care team that best suits your specific needs, shares similar interests and values to provide consistency and continuity for your care.
